Biography

Kevin P. Hopper is currently the managing partner of Hopper Law Firm. He was born in Beaumont, Texas, the son of Wayne Hopper and Patricia Hopper. He has three sisters, Norma, Suellen, and Heather and five brothers, Michael, Josh, Dean, Jarrod, and Frank. He graduated from Duncanville High School, Duncanville, Texas in 1985. He attended the University of Texas in Arlington and then went to Stephen F. Austin State University. He was elected to the student senate at Stephen F. Austin State University, in 1986. He remained in the senate, ultimately being elected Speaker of the House his senior year. He was also active in the Sigma Chi fraternity serving in several capacities including Vice President. He also served in several student organizations while in college including as an officer in the German Club and president of the Pre Law Club.

While at Stephen F. Austin State University he participated in the undergraduate Moot Court Program. Moot court is a team of two people arguing legal issues in front of an Appellate Court. He and his partner won the Undergraduate Moot Court competition for the State of Texas in 1989.

After graduating from Stephen F. Austin State University in Political Science and Psychology in December 1989, he attended Texas Tech University School of Law graduating in 1993. While in Law School he clerked for a local lawyer for two years. It was during his clerkship that he co-authored and had published an article on Social Host Liability.

Subsequent to his graduation from Law School he relocated to Raleigh, North Carolina, where he started his own law practice in 1994. In the fall of 1996 he took on a partner to form the Firm of Hopper & Mathews LLP. This firm merged with Laura Brennan to form the Firm of Brennan Hopper & Mathews PLLC in the Spring of 1999. In the spring of 2001 he merged his practice with Younce & Vtipil P.A. forming the Firm of Younce, Hopper, Vtipil, and Bradford, PLLC.

Kevin P. Hopper currently maintains a trial practice concentrating in commercial law, business law, construction law, civil litigation, and family law. He also handles a small trial practice in criminal law handling misdemeanors, traffic violations, and some felonies.

Since he began practicing law in the State of North Carolina, he has been a member of the 10th Judicial District Bar, the Wake County Bar, the Wake County Juvenile Law organization, and the Wake County Criminal Lawyers Organization. He has also been and continues to be involved in other organizations including the North Carolina State Bar, the American Bar Association, and the North Carolina Academy of Trial Lawyers, an organization which prides itself on protecting individual's rights and advancing the cause of Justice. Mr. Hopper was recognized in 1998 by the National Institute for Trial Advocacy for his completion of an intense training program which dealt heavily in trial advocacy skills. He has also completed a intensive two day program in mediation. He authored and taught a Continuing Education Course in Juvenile law in 1988, publishing a paper on representation of parents in abuse, neglect and dependence cases.

Mr. Hopper is currently a member of the Raleigh alumni chapter of Sigma Chi Fraternity, The Sacred Heart Church, and The Contemporaries of the North Carolina Museum of Art.
