Best Actress "Oscar Curse" Proves True
It's Oscar season again, and that means many of Hollywood's top actors and actresses are dreaming up acceptance speeches and choosing outfits. Unfortunately, for the women who are nominated for the Best Actress award, they may also be thinking about the strength of their marriages. There exists something called the "Oscar Curse," which many people may or may not have heard about. This curse affects only the women who win the "Best Actress" award; it does not affect the men who win the "Best Actor" award.
Now, the what was once only anecdotal speculation has been confirmed by research. The curse is this: Women who win the Best Actress award are 68% more likely to get divorced after they win, compared to the other actresses who were nominated but who did not win.
Reese Witherspoon, Bette Davis, Halley Barry, Joan Crawford, Hillary Swank and others are all examples of this post-Oscar divorce curse.
