Study Asserts Divorce Rate is Declining

After peaking in the 1980s, the divorce rate has been slowly declining in the United States, despite public opinion that most marriages end in divorce these days.
Research conducted by one University in Virginia shows that those individuals who witnessed a divorce during the 1970s and 1980s are working hard to avoid divorces of their own. The divorce rate has declined especially for educated couples, of which just 11% will divorce during the first ten years of marriage. When compared to 37% of the general population that will seek a divorce during that time, the numbers are significantly different.
While the study does show a decline in divorces, it does not give the reason for this decline. Some researchers believe that the couples will do anything to avoid a divorce, even if the marriage is unhappy. Others think that with all the negative attention given to single parents, couples are less likely divorce if they have children.
