Two Raleigh Mothers Charged with Child Abuse

20 year old Brittney Simmons was pulled over by police around 1:30 a.m. on Thursday morning for suspected driving under the influence. Police reports state that she appeared intoxicated and that she blew a .15% on a breathalyzer, which is almost twice the legal blood alcohol content (BAC). Another woman was also in the car.
Both Simmons and 22 year old Kendra Nicole Covington were charged with child abuse when police saw that there were two children in the backseat. Simmon's child was not wearing a seat belt and Covtington's child was in a car seat but was not secured in it.
Driving while intoxicated with a minor in the vehicle means that Simmons will likely be charged with aggravated DUI.
Both were held at Wake County jail. Covington has posted bail since; it is not known whether Simmons has posted bail since this morning.
